I haven't seen this series either, though I've been really curious about it. I should see if it's been released on DVD in region one format. It looks like the kind of series my mom would really enjoy, though I'd naturally want to watch it as well. :-)
It's an enjoyable series aimed at about 11-12 year olds, but anyone can watch it! It has a lot of magic and mystery, and a nasty villain. The child actors are all good. Jason has a lovely, subtle Scots accent. He plays the father role so naturally.
The series is worth seeing, but Jason plays a secondary role. The children have the main roles. He appears a lot in the first series and then less until the second part of the second series.
