I've watched a few good things lately - Cinderella with Cate Blanchett, Richard Madden and Lily James was heart-warming, Song One with Anne Hathaway had some lovely urban folk music, Testament of Youth was heartbreaking, Flight of the Doves was seventies vintage with Jack Wild, Lake House with Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reaves was intriguing, plus the recent Lady Chatterley's Lover with Holliday Grainger and Richard Madden, which was good and tastefully done.

I have to confess that I haven't seen any of these films, though I was certainly tempted by Cinderella when it came out (I had been curious what you might think of it at the time) and I just read an article on Lady Chatterley's Lover and hope I'll get a chance to see it.

I was pleasantly surprised by Lily James as Cinderella; I thought she'd be too lightweight, but she showed depth. I liked Richard Madden as the Prince, though I've read that some people wanted a younger, prettier man in the role. Madden and James have good chemistry and keep it light as is appropriate for a fairy story. Cate Blanchette is excellent as the stepmother and her clothes are stunning!

I was wondering if the Cinderella would be good. Nice to hear good things. I love the Lake House. It's funny, I always forget that they were in Speed together. I liked the filming of Lady Chatterley's Lover, but even though I liked both the actor and actress in it, it just didn't work for me. I don't know whether I'm just too attached to the Sean Bean version, or what. The filming was lovely though.

I was predisposed to like both Cinderella and Lady Chatterley's Lover because I like Richard Madden! There are also some darling mice in Cinderella and Helena Bonham-Carter doing a H B-C Fairy Godmother to recommend it. I'd been meaning to see the Lake House for so long, but I didn't want to see just an ordinary love story, so I was pleased with the unusual story with two well-matched protagonists. It's one I'll watch again, though I'd like to know what happens to the dog.

I loved Cinderella, totally forgot about that coming out on DVD. I may just have to buy it. :)

Thanks for the rec of Song one, I had never heard of it! I just stuck it in my queue.

When you say Testament of Youth was heart breaking, does that mean it has a sad ending? I hate sad endings. :(

I remember Lake House! I have it in my DVD collection and really should rewatch it ...

Lovely to hear from you! I know I owe you a reply, but RL seems to have exploded in the last couple of weeks and now with fall here I'll have more yard work. It never ends! :P Right now I'm actually looking forward to winter! LOL

I'm glad you loved Cinderella. :o) Did you like the mice?

I found Song One browsing in the local video store. I think you'll like it.

Testament of Youth is about World War I so it is sad, but the ending isn't too sad.

I hope your RL has exploded in a good way? I'm just drowning at work so I tend to comfort myself by reading or watching stuff with my cats at home. My garden is full of exuberant spring weeds!

I LOVED the mice! They made me laugh so hard! :DDD

Ah. I may give Testament of Youth a try then, as long as the ending is good.

Hmm. I would say 50/50 exploded in a good way. I've actually gotten out and had some fun, but a lot of it is work around home that needs to be done in anticipation of winter. Ah, spring weeds, I definitely don't miss those! LOL
