Holiday. 10, Housesteads Fort, Hadrian's Wall, Northumberland

On our way back to Burton-on-Trent, we went to Housesteads Roman Fort, on Hadrian's Wall.

 



 

 




 


 




 



Views north towards the Cheviot Hills and Scotland.  Imagine being a soldier in the fort, waiting for the Picts, and later the Scots, to come over those hills to attack you.

 

 




After Housesteads, our car broke down in a village called Fourstones. We were taken home in a big recovery truck!

I try to picture what it must have looked like, but my imagination isn't enough. It must have been awe-inspiring, set in what must have been a bleak landscape.

The set of pics you should check out is No. 7, Cragside Hall. It's a Victorian mansion.

Hey, karen9! I'm sorry you're only hearing from me now. I've been away the last few days. I'm working through your photos in the order you posted them (for once) and will look at what I can tonight. Anywaaaaaay, I'm so jealous you got to see Hadrian's Wall! I'd love to go there! However, seeing your beautiful pictures definitely makes up for it! They're fabulous! :-) I'm glad you had the opportunity to see Housesteads, though I'm sorry your car broke down in Fourstones.
