New series: A Game of Thrones

There's been so much hype about this series. I hope it lives up to expectations. It's airing in the USA and the UK early in April. It's been made by HBO - who are they? I suppose it will be shown here on the pay channels only.

I came across the publicity through a Sean Bean site. He plays one of the main roles.

I then found the book by George R.R. Martin, which I enjoyed.

I have to confess that this is the first time I've heard about it. I'm glad to hear the book was good. With any luck, the series will also be enjoyable. It certainly helps that Sean Bean is playing the lead. :-)

HBO is an American cable network that produces and co-produces a number of shows.

It's a historical style fantasy without wizards or elves or anything twee. Intrigue, deception, power struggles and good men caught up in it. Also a touch of the supernatural.The costumes and sets look stunning.

I saw someone else also picked up some similarity with Edward IV and the Woodville family. Some of the back mythology is very similar to the mythical invasions of Ireland by different peoples.
