The White Queen BBC series

I've just watched the final episode of The White Queen. I liked the series, though the BBC obviously didn't have enough funds to do the story justice. The battles were unrealistic with very small numbers and there were a few more inaccuracies than acceptable even in a tv series based on novels. Particularly showing Henry Tudor fighting at Bosworth when he stayed protected at the rear of the battle. Many characters were not included, notably Richard's close friend Francis Lovell. I think Aneurin Barnard was excellent as Richard III and the actresses who played the Neville sisters were the next best. It was unusual to see Anne Neville played as a strong ambitious woman rather than the mild and sickly one of history. Rupert Graves was as usual very good in the role of Stanley, the traitor! I don't think
rusty_armour would care much for his close-cut hair and his tatty beard!

Date: 2013-08-25 03:25 pm (UTC)Anywaaaaaaay, I've heard good and bad things about The White Queen, so I'll be very interested in seeing it when it airs on a channel I receive -- unless I search for it online. I haven't had much luck in that area lately. I thought I had a website for Broadchurch (as I missed the first two parts when they aired on Showcase), but I haven't had any luck with it.

You can also use the www.solarmovie.so site for The White Queen.

Date: 2013-08-26 12:23 am (UTC)Thanks for the Broadchurch link. Unfortunately, I'm running into the same problems. I'm either asked for credit card information or the video won't play or download even when I try to download the necessary player. I'm wondering if it's because I'm in a different region. The first recommended site was from a Brit. Anywaaaaay, the first episode is on YouTube (with Russian subtitles), so I think I'll settle for that and just skip the second episode. I've been able to tape episodes 3-6 of the first series. I'll be taping 7 & 8 tonight and tomorrow.
I've heard that Broadchurch is pretty dark, but very good.
BTW, I saw The World's End today. I really, really enjoyed it, though I think Hot Fuzz will always be my favourite movie in the Cornetto Trilogy.

Date: 2013-08-26 08:55 pm (UTC)The site I use is best for streaming rather than downloading. I tried the nowvideo.eu host for Broadchurch episode two. Click on the episode then on Play Now. Click "Close ad and continue as free user." Delete advertisement tab that comes up. Click arrow. Close any "Download Play now" boxes that may come up. OR the played.to host. Click on the episode then on Play Now. Click the small X box and close ads that have opened in the background. Then click the arrow. Both of these hosts are pretty slow to get going so try them out of peak hours.

Date: 2013-08-26 01:58 am (UTC)I have a feeling that CBC will eventually air The White Queen because they've aired quasi-historical mini-series before. Of course, those were co-Canadian productions (e.g. The Tudors), so maybe I'm being overly optimistic. My mom has offered to lend me the novel, so I'll have that in the mean time. :-)

Date: 2013-08-26 08:59 pm (UTC)I hope The White Queen is aired in Canada. You'll have to read the book trilogy to cover the tv series: The White Queen, The Red Queen and The Kingmaker's Daughter. The tv series crammed too much into ten episodes.

I hope The White Queen is aired in Canada.
I'm sure we'll get it here. Even if we don't, I have a feeling that my mom will buy the DVD when it's available. She's a big Philippa Gregory fan.

Yikes! No wonder the series couldn't do it justice! Well, I'm pretty sure my mom has all the books, so I should be able to cover the trilogy. :-)

Date: 2013-08-26 09:04 pm (UTC)I know this period really well though not as well as I used to. I used to be able to list all the battles of the Wars of the Roses in order! When I first started reading adult books all I was interested in reading were The Wars of the Roses and Richard the Third.
Which periods of history are you interested in?

Roman, various medieval, stuff like that. I'm fairly familiar with the Plantagenet periods, and various parts of the Tudors' reign. Not as familiar with Lancaster and York, etc.
